These little duck ash trays are being sold on eBay as being made by W. H. Goss company. You can see by the box they came in that they were made by Contemporary Ceramics, Chatham, N. J. The box says "An Original Design". |
![]() Close up on the name on the box at left. |
![]() This is a postcard advertising the Seconds Shop, which was owned and operated by Contemporary Ceramics. Hard to see on this page, but there is a little duck ash tray in the lower right. Next frame is the text on the back of the above postcard. |

This is a close up of the duck on the post card. I'll have to take another photo of the actual duck in this postion so you can see it is identical to the Mallard at right. |
The duck on the right, although unmarked, is definitely Chatham Potters glaze and work. Note it is identical mold to the duck on the left. The duck on the left is marked "Handpainted underglazed porcelain by Goss" NOTE: Costas Kalogirou says that the duck on the left was Contemporary Ceramics, and that he made the Chatham Potters duck on the right. They are made from the same mold. W. H. Goss had nothing to do with the ducks. More to come...soon as I figure out how to make a "next page" button. |
